My son is 5 1/2 months old he loves to sit in his walker and has discovered that he can move around himself . At the clinic today the midwife said that was to early for him to be sitting in a walker, because his back mussels have not developed properly. He loves it and he is only in it for 10 / 15 minutes at a time. He loves to bounce and jump around and he does this by himself Has anyone else done this. He cant fall down any stairs or tip on anything and there is no older childeren to tip him out. What do you think and what have you done

the midwifes specialty is delivering babies-she's not a baby doctor
all babies grow and develop differently
as long as your son can hold his head steady without it bobbing around-placing him in the walker is fine.

my baby is 8 weeks and she is very strong with well developed neck/head muscles already. she sits well when we sit her up, but she loves to move her head and look at everything- by doing that she loses her balance.
I tried sitting her in a walker and she was fine until she started looking at everything in sight, she kept bopping her head off the little steering wheel and beeping the horn, lol

My kids were about that age when I put them in their excersaucer and they loved it. I don't think it set them back from walking. As a matter of fact, they were 9 1/2 & 10 months old when they started walking! As long as you keep a close eye on him and make sure he doesn't 'flop' all over the place. Lol. I took a receiving blanket, rolled it up, and tucked it inside the saucer, around them. Good luck, and do what you feel is best.
by the way, I don't have a walker, because I never had room for baby to move around in one. sounds like you have the 'danger' zones covered, though.

Our twins both use the walker, and have since about 5 months old. The pediatrician said it was fine, as long as they're were getting enough tummy time to build the muscles that they need for crawling. She said 15 - 20 minutes tops, but that we could do that a couple of times a day..

I was told by a few people that babies shouldn't be sitting in walkers or saucers or what have you until they are able to sit up on their own, otherwise it damages their back muscles. However, I put my 5 month old daughter into her saucer for 10-15 minutes everyday, and she loves being able to pull the toys into her mouth. She makes the seat spin really well, too- she gets around. We started putting her in there when she got bored with her infant seat and hanging toys.

walkers are dangerous, I put my sons in a saucer around that age (its all good as long as they can sit up on their own) and he loved all the little toys and spinning in it. I put it a little lower than his height standing which helped to strengthen leg muscles, but i don't think it made a difference on when they walked. My first son walked at 9 1/2 months and my second 11 1/2 months. it just depends on the kid

all 4 of my kids were in them that early - but only for maybe 5 - 10 minutes a couple times a day. And they are just fine and never had any problems with walking, sitting, muscle problems, etc.

Not to discourage walker users, but a few months back there was an article in the Parents magazine that said parents shouldn't use them period. I have two and one on the way and have never used one. Supposedly they are not got for development reasons. But to each his (her) own.

My 5 month old loves it! We have a regular one at my mom's house and a stationary one here at home. He loves to sit and bounce. I don't see what the big deal is. Most of the seats like that have high backs anyway so all they do is lean back!
