I want to apply for a border patrol position and I am wondering how long the hiring process takes right now?

You will have to be a U.S. Citizen. They may take Legal Permanent Residents, but don't quote me on that. Go to www.usajobs.opm.gov. That's a website with all the employment opportunities available in the federal government. If you've ever been in the military, you'll get a 5 point Veterans Preference--basically means they'll hire you over some shmuck off the streets if you both have the exact same qualifications. If they even think about hiring you, you'll have to submit to background checks--lots and lots of background checks. It's really hard to get fired from a federal position, so they have to make it really hard to get hired in the first place. Expect the hiring process to take at least 6 months, maybe even more. It could take them that long to even contact you after you submit the application. Hope this helps a little.

My husband applied last July and is still waiting ro hear from them to see if he will be offered a job. He has already done everything and is finished with the process. It can take very long though. There are people STILL waiting after 2 years after applying.

Good luck to u!
