Upstairs Downstairs was created by Jean Marsh (I think she played Rose the maid) & another actress who's name I can't recall right now (surname Atkin, Aitkin something like that?)
But I do remember some of it: Mr & Mrs Bellamy lived in Eaton Place (posh part of London at the time) Hudson the butler (Gordon Jackson) Mrs Bridges (Angela Baddeley I think - not sure) Ruby the downstairs maid, John Alderton who played alongside his real-life wife Pauline Collins, Simon Williams as the 'cad' who in ral life went on to marry the sister-in- law of Nigel Havers'... I could go on..
Other than that I know nothing about it!
6 degrees of separation...
The only thing I remember about Duchess of Duke Street is Gemma someone. who played a 'right gor'blimey'. She was good but it must've clashed with something else so I didn't get to see it much.
Don't know anything about Bramwell. Sorry.
Hope you enjoy reminiscing
Be lucky

I absolutely loved Upstairs Downstairs. I was lucky enough to see it when it was first broadcast in the 1970s. A complete classic without a doubt. The series that confirmed Jean Marsh as a great writer as well as a great actress. She was the only reason I started watching it in the first place to be honest, because I had liked her so much in Doctor Who ("The Dalek's Master plan").
Have to say I didn't like The Duchess of Duke Street so much. It wasn't bad, just not great either in my opinion.
Never heard of Bramwell - sorry.

As for Bramwell, there were about 27 episodes made from 1996-1998.
I LOVE watching anything British, comedy or drama. I love Life on Mars, Cracker, and As Time Goes By. The majority of the time they seem to be better than what the US channels have to offer.

May I pay you a compliment? You don't look old enough to remember those shows. I on the other hand remember them only to well, as I had to endure them (Upstairs Downstairs / Duchess of Suke Street & others) during the 70's when I was but a mere child with no control over the TV remote. The only decent shows I liked in the 70's from here were "It's a knockout", "Mind your language" & "The Goodies". Mind you, they look very dated nowadays.

Yes very much so. ITV 2, 3 and 4 often show the older serials, I very much enjoy Rumpole of the Bailey and Lovejoy at the moment.
