You need to promote yourselves. By that I mean playing A LOT of shows, putting up posters and inviting people on places such as MySpace, getting your own MySpace or website, recording songs and uploading them onto the net so people can hear what you sound like. Try contacting a small studio and making a demo (2-4 songs) and send it to local newspapers and music magazines, you may get an interview. Do anything you can to promote people and make a buzz around your music. Talk to fans and be friends with them and they will help to promote you by talking about you. Once you feel you're up to it, contact labels (LOTS of labels) and send them a press pack with some information about the band, a demo and some photos or anything else that may be interesting. Try and be interesting and original, not "crazy and out there", but interesting enough for people to become curious about you.
If your local scene's a 'hole, then maybe you should move to a bigger city, one where your style of music popular and will get you noticed.
Just do whatever you can to get the word out there and get people talking about you. Good Luck.

its a pain in the *** frankly to get your guys name out there, i 2 am in a band. so i reccommend starting with myspace if you dont have one make one, if you do have one add every person you have ever met and even ones you havent. demo cds to ever radio station wether they play your genra or not send em out.especially in big citys in your state and hell even ones in different states if you know em. get as many gigs as possible no matter how much of a **** hole the place might be you gotta do it. get all of your familys involved you have to have grandparents or something that dont live in such a rural area. so yea thats al i can think on getting your name out. a record deal is alot easier than being recognized tho the process can be fairly costly. look for all of the major lables in your state and surrounding states and send out yoru demos, make sure they are quality demos that show off all of your positives. write to the big wigs at these lables basically setting up a time for them to come and see you perform. dont necessairly give them the option, just say we are playing here at this date and what not or just set up an appointment to play soley for them
good luck!!

Im sure you guys are reallly great! I recommend for you to sing like in a street,
you know how you walk in new york and see people playing music? I mean those people dont have to be talented homeless people, you are just entertaining the public with YOUR talent, and you never know; while your playing your music a music director, or i dont know those studios people that can handle that might spot you and give you an opportunity, i dont know but i think its worth a try! although you'll have to go to a more busier area, like a city, philadelphia, new york, washing d.c,
you can try sighning up in a competition that involves music too, there are alot of those in big cities.......Best of Luck!

Local bands in Ohio usually do the club or bar scenes. They have someone record them with a camcorder then send it to radio stations and production companies. They entered a best band contest also and are now recording.

well. the only way you are gona get reconised is if u literally get out there and get as big fanbase as possable,
you may want to travel around and do some shows outside of your rural area, if you can afford it, go all around the country,
With this, u get a larger fan base , and also more of a chance of getting spotted by some big time promopter (sp?)
Also- try and look for towns/cities, that are well known for your genre of music - its all about finding the right scene.
Good Luck Man !

i think how my friends band got discovered was when they just started playing at talent shows. one day they were just practicing and a record company dealer came in and they got a deal. they've been touring for 3 years now in Europe.

create a website,
upload free music downloads from your band,
make a funny music video for one of your band's songs and put it on you tube,
offer to play for charity gigs,
make demo and send to local radio stations
