No, you only have to tick the party or person of your choice.
I think the preference deals done by parties such as the labor and Greens should be abandoned. Some shady dealing is done before elections between parties and also some so called independents.

What state is NSW? What Country? These things might help.
Most states in the U.S. demand that you state your political party. You get to vote on only that party, in the primaries.
