Trees serve many purposes. Here is a small list:
1. Produce oxygen (for us to breath)
2. Produce food (fruits and nuts)
3. Provide shade (reduces cost of cooling in the summer)
4. Provide beauty (flowers)

trees, like all plants take in carbon dioxide and emit oxygen. If we had no trees we wouldn't have enough oxygen to breathe and our air would be poison with too much carbon dioxide. Trees are very important. Besides doing all of this they provide a habitat for many animals such as birds and small mammals such as squirrels. Deer eat off the bark in the winter when fresh grass isn't available to them. We also get furniture, houses, and paper products from trees.

They were here before we were for one thing. And, unlike us, they do nothing but good: provide cover and concealment for aboreal and terrestrial animals, and shelter for both as well; (we are terrestial animals.) Not to mention they remove carbon dioxide from the atmospher and replace it with oxygen, which we all must have -- even fish.
So we should be concerned that it takes about one hundred thousand trees to publish one Sunday edition of the New York Times. Think about it.
And these lumber companies who televise that they plant two trees for every one they cut down, or whatever: How many one ounce seedlings do you suppose it takes to remove as much CO2 as a giant, virgin, many-ton tree?
Of course, that is only a smattering.

#1 for oxygen and we all need to be surrounded by the serenity of nature. Trees are beautiful and if they could talk they would have many stories to tell. Some of them have been around for sooo long. I find this fascinating

The real question is: Do trees need you?
Eventually you will be helping them in some fashion, be it as compost or ash.

We only need them,
if you want to keep breathing.
Otherwise, it's pretty safe to live without them.
If you can live that long!
