Ok, so here's my scenerio.

My motherboard has two EIDE slots, labeled EIDE1 & EIDE2. I was tinkering with my computer trying to check another Hard Drive that I have, and now I can't get it to work.

The Way I have it set up right now is EIDE1 has a cable coming out with the middle connecter going to the HD (Set to Master) and the CD/DVD Rom (Set to Slave).

The EIDE2 has a cable coming out with the end connecter going into the DVD-RW (Set to Slave).

I have switched the cables around all different ways, and I can't get the computer to detect the Primary Master, Primary Slave, Secondary Master or the Secondary Slave. What am I doing wrong?

theres a red stripe on the side of ide cables
on moby ide slots, 1 end is pin 1. red side of cable must go to pin 1. (refer to manual is u dont know which end)
red side of cable must point right(out) on cd\dvd\hdd's,again this is called pin one. otherwise, as long as 1 is set master,1 is set slave on one ide cable, your right

Try the following :
Leave the hard disk on it's own (in EIDE1 or EIDE2, ti doesn't matter), and connect the CD/DVD Rom AND the DVD-RW at the other EIDE. Set your Hard Disk to master since you don't have another HD attached and set your CD/DVD Rom/DVD-RW one master and one slave, decide which one you prefer for master, that will be your secondary master device.
After you complete the connection, start the PC and press soon Del button to enter BIOS.
In one of the Bios options, you'll be given you the ability to adjust your primary and secondary devices, I think the option is called "Advanced Bios Features" but check anyway. When you find it you'll see the options :
Primary Master
Primary Slave
Secondary Master
Secondary Slave
Next to Primary Master, use your keyboard to set your Hard Disk as a primary master device, (hit Page Down/Page Up enough times until you see the HD as an option)
leave the Primary slave with "none" and set the Secondary Master and Slave the same way, I suggest setting your CD/DVD Rom as Secondary Master and your DVD-RW as Secondary Slave. Press F10 to save the changes, exit the bios and re-start the PC.

You just can't arbitrarily set jumpers and assign connectors.

It's best to use EIDE 1 for your hard drive's.

The end of the cable farthest away from the motherboard should go to the 1st hard drive with the jumper set to master. The connector about 6 inches back from the end (or the middle connector as you call it) should go the the 2nd hard drive with the jumper set to slave. Then you need to make sure you have the boot sequence set properly in the bios.

The EIDE 2 cable is best used for the CD/DVD drives and set them the same as above regarding connectors and jumpers.

Hope this helps.

The DVD-RW should be master, not slave, since it is alone on that channel.

I don't think this should screw up identification on channel 1, though. Make sure all drives' power cables are in good, and check the orientation of the IDE plugs. If the cable plugs don't have the tab on the bottom, make sure the side with the two notches is on the top (i.e. opposite the gap in the edge of the drive's socket).

If your HD is toast, this will screw up the identification of the slave, I believe.
