Put the shirt in the freezer or go to a janitors supply store and ask for the spray that freezes gum works better than the freezer cause it helps to lift it off.

Use goo gone, you can find it at a auto parts store. What I've found useful is to use the same gum, wet with goo gone, to "pull" the gum out of the fabric, kinda like dabbing a stain. It'll make sense once you start using it. Be careful though, some materials are incompatible with this product.

Peanut butter. The oils in the peanut butter work to break down gum and you should be able to get it out with just the peanut butter and paper towel. I also agree with others and would attempt to use ice to freeze and them scrape off use a dull knife, being careful not to stretch the fabric too much.

Easy solution. Hold ice on the area until it hardens, then chip the gum away.
