Thanks all for the "exploding" stuff, but I am more interested in things that could cause a reaction with gas (no, not Taco Bell!). I want to test what concoction can potentially blow up a balloon fastest and want various samples.

Actually those aren't that explosive only reactive. If you want explosive reactions, mix chlorine and sodium. Mix hydrogen with bromine or any other halogen element. Just mix any alkaline or alkaline-earth metal with a halogen element you will always get an explosive reaction. Or you can put dry ice in a plastic bottle and wait, a few minutes, Ka-boommm!. Put any gas in a bottle and increase the temperature and the bottle will explode.

Yes I do. There is something you can explode. Put an empty soda can on a bunson burner. Then quickly drop the soda can in a bucket of ice cold water. Be careful not to burn yourself. Use tongs to drop the can into the water. Watch what happens.... the can explodes and shrinks. It is pretty cool. Cold water and a bunson burner are great exploding substances.

Empty a C02 cartridge and fill it with the ground up heads of matches, prepare a fuse and light from a safe distance. Extremely explosive.
