I am extremely paranoid right now...I am 5 weeks pregnant and recently took my son to the Stock Show where we also visited the petting zoo...I have spotted twice today and I have cold-like symptoms. My son also has diarrhea, vomiting and cold-like symtoms as well. Could we have contracted toxoplasmosis..and is it affecting my pregnancy now like...(miscarriage)? Please someone make me feel better!

How do people get toxoplasmosis?
A Toxoplasma infection occurs by:

Accidentally swallowing cat feces from a Toxoplasma-infected cat that is shedding the organism in its feces. This might happen if you were to accidentally touch your hands to your mouth after gardening, cleaning a cat's litter box, or touching anything that has come into contact with cat feces. Eating contaminated raw or partly cooked meat, especially pork, lamb, or venison; by touching your hands to your mouth after handling undercooked meat.
Contaminating food with knives, utensils, cutting boards and other foods that have had contact with raw meat.
Drinking water contaminated with Toxoplasma.
Receiving an infected organ transplant or blood transfusion, though this is rare.

Toxoplasmosis is not really as big of a risk as most people think. Most people have already come in contact with it and have antibodies in their systems. You are told not to touch animal feces (cat litter, etc). But chances are you've already been exposed and there's not a risk to you or your baby. Germs, on the other hand, from touching animals could make you sick.

I would call your son's pediatrician - and your OB if you continue to spot or have cramping.

Hope this helps!

i don't understand the indicators. yet as long as you be certain the beef you devour is cooked all the way and in case you replace cat boxes wash your arms after wards. I replaced my cat's container my entire being pregnant, and that i in no way have been given toxoplasmosis. (I washed my arms when I did it each and every time)

I have only heard of getting that from cat feces, and it`s kinda rare to..Call your doctor to ease your worries but I think your fine..Most likely you and your son are just coming down with a cold..Hope you feel better!

I have heard you can get E. coli from a petting zoo so please be very careful. If you or you son get worse seek medical attention immediately.
