Beginner or pro, always buy the best you can afford. Heavier is usually better when it comes to cooking, but some people don't like the extra strain.

enamel-lined cast iron are just as un-sticky as nonstick teflon stuff, and probably healthier. Cast iron is good because the heat distribution is very even.

Tin-lined copper is awesome, but high cost and high maintenance.

T-Fal is fine, at WalMart too. But, someday you'll want to raise the bar, check cooks essentials on QVC
