Teams such as UConn had to replace their entire roster because of the NBA. This is coming from a die hard UConn fan, but I think basketball players should get a college degree first, just in case they do not make in the NBA. Just because you play basketball, does not mean you could throw your life away.

The only thing requiring a player to go to 4 years of college does is increase his chance of injury and rob 4 years of an already limited basketball life from his career

A lot of players get drafted to the NBA and then finish their college degrees a few years later so it's not like it isn't an option. Also just basketball experience opens doors for announce jobs, basketball commentary, and coaching jobs which is what a lot of players would focus on in college anyway.

Players can decide for themselves what's in their best interests and some players are just better than the college game and would be wasting their time playing with such inferior talent. It's like a highschool varsity star being forced to play on the freshman team. He's not learning anything and is just wasting his time meanwhile his career on the main stage is running out of time.

A basketball player can maybe play at a highlevel with few exceptions until he is 32-35. You take a guy who is NBA ready out of highschool and want to steal about 20% of his playing career away from him before it even starts?

That's something he can never get back. School is timeless he can go in the offseason or after his playing time is done with all of his guaranteed contracts.

You can return to school anytime, you can never get those 4 basketball years back.

I think they should either make the players get their degree or let them in the league out of high school. This business of waiting until your 19 is non-sense. When a player comes to college they only have to make minimum grades of 1 semester, and the second semester they don't even have to attend class because the season will be over before the end of the semester. So that rule really doesn't help the college or the player.

No. I think instead they should let players come straight from highschool. That way, the ones intending to play a good college career will go to college and the ones that want to go into the NBA will go in the draft. Theres to many college freshman now that don't have their minds on the team and just have it on getting out and going to the NBA.

yeah i agree about going to college but if you had a chance to make millions and millions of dollars every year what would you choose. by the time you get an injury you'd have enough money to live off. education is great but this may be a once in a lifetime chance for you and you might have to take it because lets say for instance that i was the best balla that came out of high school. they changed the rule in the nba from coming out of high school into the nba so, i play one year of college ball. i may have only one chance to play in the nba and im going to take every chance i can get. let's say i was real good that college year and i was going to be a first round pick, but i decided to play one more year in college. lets say my game decreased and i tried to enter the nba draft and didn't make it. think about that. your dream or your education

it should all just be the players choice. the players really would know whether they are a top NBA prospect or not. this way for the players who really are blessed with tremendous talent should not be punished, and be given a choice to make millions.

some people love the college experience and become very successfull student athletes and some other don't care about classes all they care about is nba.Since it can happen in any school i think its fair to let the student athletes to take off whenever they want.
