Right now we're 18 weeks along with baby #2, so we're just trying to look at whether or not 3d or 4d imaging ultrasounds is for us. Obviously we have a lot to time before we're going to do ANYTHING with a 3d or 4d ultrasound.

The plus side is that we didn't get to do this with our first child.

The negative side is that studies aren't 100% sure of how it affects the baby long-term. Is the risk really worth it?

What experiences do YOU have with it? Would you say to give it a go or would you say no no?

And yes, we know to always go through the doctor. Our appointment is in two weeks, and we ALWAYS consider our doctor's opinion to be what is most important. A 3d ultrasound is no excuse for not going to the OB.

I'm 35 weeks pregnant and I have had 2 3d/4d ultrasounds! I haven't heard anything about risks?? My doctor seemed really excited and thought it was awesome when I showed him the pictures. Anyway, I thought it was great, worth the money-- SO much more detail than a regular one at the doctor's office. I LOVED it so much the first time, I knew I just had to do it again...

Oh, and the place I went to required that I had one done by my doctor first...

I don't believe there is any harm to the baby at all. An ultrasound is just sending sound waves through the belly and they bounce off of the baby's bone, cartilage, etc and produce a picture. The baby doesn't feel anything and there is nothing that it emits that would potentially harm the baby either.

We did 3d/4d ultrasounds in our office regularly. Our ultrasound machine was equipped with it, so if it looked like we could get a good shot, we would just switch over and get some pictures.

The pictures you get are great! There were times you could see exactly what the baby looked like. I really enjoyed the 3d/4d ultrasounds.

I say go for it. The 3/4D ultrasound is not really any different from the regular 2D ultrasounds in terms of how it affects the baby. We had it done with our first daughter and it was so COOL!! We had it done as an "entertainment" ultrasound and we thought it was well worth the cost. She looks just like her u/s pictures!! I also asked my Dr. about it and she told me that I could spend my $$ a better way, but that it wouldn't hurt the baby at all.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

3D/4D ultrasounds are the best! We had one done with my baby, and he looked just like both of us. His nose was just like mine, and he had my husband's head. In one picture, it seemed like he knew the camera was there, he was looking right at it! I didn't know there were risks involved, and nothing was ever said to us. I say go for it!

I am currently 31 weeks pregnant with my first baby, at my 20 week scan they were 80% sure its a little boy. I have my 4d scan booked for this Saturday & can not wait, I am so so excited. Its costing £195.00 but I think it will be so worth it, we get a dvd & cd of baby & thermal pics too. Cant wait!

I had a 4d US and the Dr said it was perfectly safe there was nothing to worry about. Its amazing the pictures you see..its like you can tell exactly who your baby looks like. Mine has the exact profile of her father. So its really cool and really gives you an Idea of what your baby will look like. Plus like my Dr. told me that there was no proof that something bad would happen to the baby it would be just fine. But talk to your Dr about it and see what they say. But I recomend it...its really neat.

I am getting mine done on Friday. I will be 32 weeks. My doctors office does this, and it only cost $100. I a really looking forward to seeing what he looks like. If there were any side effects I don't think they would be doing them.

I am high risk and my dr is giving me a 3d u/s to see the birth defects. She said there is no harm in it. You just need to make sure you have a certified technician that knows what they are doing. Good luck and congrats!!
