I have no children, and would really like to get my friend something different, but fun. Any ideas would be appreciated.

It might be a little cliche, but maybe a massage or pedicure certificate would be nice to have. Sure it's nothing to use for the baby, but mom is already going to be devoting all of her time and energy to the little one, so she needs to know that she is worth it and still deserves to do something good for herself. Even if you don't like this idea, I think something for HER to use would be best, depending on whatever her interests are.

Put together a relaxing kit for her. She is going to be stressed, especially these first few weeks home from the hospital as she adapts to caring for a new baby. Chances are she has just about everything she needs for the baby already. Some ideas:
*bubble bath/shower gel/lotion set (Sephora.com has some nice ones)
*a scented candle
*a funny book on motherhood (she will need some laughs at times)
*a pretty mug with cocoa packets and tea (caffeine free if she is breastfeeding)
*a gift certificate for a manicure or pedicure (you could even offer to babysit)
* a pretty basket to put everything in

Use your imagination! She will need some time to relax. Also, you could always help out (especially if she is a single mom). Come over and do the dishes, a load of laundry, a diaper run, or just watch the baby for an hour or to so she can take a nap or a hot bath. She will appreciate anything you do to help out.

A nap! After having my first, the thing I wanted the most was a few hours of uninterrupted sleep. I would arrange a time to come over to visit when you know it will just be you and her (no other guests to entertain!), and then send her off for a long shower and a nice nap. Those first few weeks can be overwhelming to new moms. I'm sure she'd appreciate your time the most of all.

A gift certificate to a spa when she is ready, she will love a massage!!You can also offer to watch her baby while she naps, this could be wonderful,I know that was one of my favorites!Offer to come over and cook her and her hubby dinner, unless you would rather buy her something.A nice comfy track suit she can lounge around in but also nice enough to go to the doctors in!!Good luck!Your an awesome friend looking for answers on here!

A free night of babysitting for a couple of hours when the baby is a few months old! But for now maybe a manicure/pedicure gift certificate like a few other people said.

What I think would be a great idea is a weekly maid service or offer to clean her house yourself. My son is 5 weeks old (first baby) and he takes up all of my time (I am a stay at home mom), and I wish someone would have done that for me.

I think that some frozen food would be great for her- home made soup/ casserole, that sort of thing.
Perhaps you could offer to do her house work for her in these early weeks, hoovering, washing up etc, or just watch her baby for half an hour so she can have a bath.

the best unique gift i got was a pink rose bush in bloom. i got to enjoy it inside, and plant it outdoors, it was is always remembered, and started with the year my daughter (now 9) was born.
with my son (now 2) i got a plaster mold kit from my sister. it came from babies are us (made for newborn to 6 mo.) we had the most fun trying to hold his foot while we made a mold of it - way better than an ink footprint. now i have it as a forever keepsake, and laugh at the memory of doing the project with my sister.

I would get a gift certificate to a photographer so she can have a professional picture taken of her and her newborn baby. That is something she will have forever. I have done that for 2 people and they say it is the greatest gift!

Something personal that would be just for her. Someone gave me some BATH & BODY WORKS after my 2nd was born and let me tell you, I really appreciated it! Maybe a gift card to one of her favorite stores or a certificate for a day at a spa. (I've been hinting to my husband the last two or three yrs to do this for me for mother's day!)
