I'm into the preforming arts, especially musical theatre. I am a pretty experienced actor and vocalist, but unfortunately, my dancing skills are not up to par with my other talents. How can I become a better dancer? I have done a lot of simple musical theatre combinations so I am not completely inadequate, but it is definately my weakest art and I want to improve. Should I start small and take beginner classes or what?

Thank you!

I would start in a beginner jazz class. It will have to closest style to musical theatre. You can then learn the basic turns, steps, jumps etc. Most musical theatre choreographers will use the same terminology and steps that you will learn in jazz.

Good luck! Keep on practicing, you'll definitely get better!

Dancing is not easy, specially proffesional. The best thing to do is take some beginner classes, and if you are really serious grow from there. It helps, although dancing and rythm is something that should be learned starting at a very young age.

A choice would be to take a class or two, or, you could always get an instructional dvd or two to see where your interests are and your week/strong points. Just remember to have fun and enjoy yourself!

you should take a ballet class, then depending on what type of dancing you will be doing take a jazz, tap or hip hop. you most definetly have to take ballet though because its the what all dance is based upon.
