I don't know if my boss is flirting with me or if hes just being nice. A girl at work said that she thinks that he is flirting with me because he always says something to me or he goes out of his way to say something to me. Another thing is that we had a work bowling event and he was in charge of putting people on teams and he put me on his team. I think hes just being nice, but how do i know if he's really flirting with me?

He's 38 i'm 23, i just think he's being nice, he hasn't physically done anything, i'm not really that perceptive usually when it comes to people hitting on me or flirting, and I don't want to assume he is if he's not because then i will look very foolish.

Flirting is commenting on clothes, appearance, being cutesy, going out of the way to too frequently not about non work things. If he talks to you way more than he talks to others who are sitting or standing right there, then yes he's probably finding you attractive.

My take on any unwanted behavior, gesture, comment etc directed at me is to immediately say: I am not comfortable with that. Whatever the respone is, you made your point. You don't have to explain why, you just have to get it said. What they do with it is their business. It also puts you on record as having declined an advance no matter how discrete the advance may have been. Best to say it in a nice way in the presence of witnesses and continue to be openly friendly or cordial with the individual to show no hard feelings. Remember: silence is complicity. The more you don't say anything the more it is perceived that it's ok by you.

Sometimes you really don't know, but I wouldn't look to deep into it. Maybe he is a very friendly guy. For example, I've been accused of flirting because I'm very friendly and almost always smile when I speak to people. As a result a number of male co-workers perceived my niceness as something more.

Does he go out of his way for anyone else like he does for you? Are you new on the job? If this friendly demeanor is bothersome to you, ask him to tone it down. Or, if it gets worse, or starts seeming more like harassment, file a complaint with a higher manager/boss... it doesn't sound like he's aggravating you though, so if you don't mind it, let it slide and go about your routine.
