As a fan of both IRL and NASCAR, I like watching races on ovals, because in my opinion it gives the drivers more opportunities to make a pass. On some road courses the turns are too narrow to start and complete the pass, without ending up off the track. So you end up having just 1 or 2 turns on 8+ turn course where you can see side by side racing.
Also on oval courses pit strategy becomes part of the winning solution.

I've been to the brickyard race and could only see turn 3 and 4. I went to once Chicagolands, 5 times Michigan could see the hole thing but like most NASCAR races they were boring after 5 laps.
I go to MID OHIO and if you sit in the grandstands you can see probably about 5/8's of the track and see about 8 turns. I know there are other road courses that are not that good to be a spectator at.
But all in all it is what you like. Some people think going in a straight line for a 1/4 mile is awesome too. But even there you either see the begining or the midway point of it not the finish.

Are you talking about TV or attending?
I go to the Long Beach GP (a road course) almost every year and its a BLAST! There are many exciting things to do and see besides just the race. Not only that, but road courses have both left and right turns so the drivers actually require a brain unlike in Nascar where drunk hicks can win a race.

i used to watch the long beach grand prix, you aren't locked in your seat, we would start the race on on the front straight, after a few laps we would head down to turn 1 and watch some overtaking , then we would make out way to the back stretch and stand under the overpass, if you've never hear a cart engine at full rpm in a concrete tunnel your missing out, then we would make our way to the hair pin and watch the cars rocket out from second gear and accelerate off the front stretch,
i would get to see all the cars doing everything that makes them amazing, and through out the track there are jumbo trons showing you what was going on in the race,
i would rather see that the them run around at high speed

Seeing one or two turns on a good road course is so much more fun than watching a boring oval.
Honestly, we all like different things. Why do you care?
