To be honest big 4x4,s are a bit "OLD HAT" now anyway. So why not remember the fun you had when you had a "Hot hatch" and sell your 4x4 to a farmer who might actually use it off road, and buy a hot hatch. I have a feeling they will become "en-vogue" again.

I think it will make a difference to all cars (not just 4x4s) that are slightly over the threshold of 225g/km of CO2, but make little difference to those that are well over it. If your car produces 300g/km, your fuel bill will be so high that an extra £150 on road tax won't make much of a difference.

Where the buyer has a choice of a car that emits 226g/km, so is in the new Band G for road tax, or a rival (or a different version of the same model) that emits only 210g/km, sales of the 226g/km version will suffer.

Where the buyer has their heart set on something that emits 350g/km, and the rival emits only 320g/km, there is no incentive to go for the 320g/km car, and a 220g/km model will be a much lesser car.

If I was paying £400 just to keep my car on the road I'd use it as much as possible! Might think about what to buy next though. It's not only 4x4, but any band G car

It's not just 4x4 it's 2ltre cars and MPV's

every child must be seat belted so the family car goes up in size and then they are stung, bring a law in and then tax them....GREAT!!!

My parents have a 2ltre diesel mondeo and they are hit by it...so it's not just 4x4

and why should farmers who need big 4x4 pay the same as the chelsea tractors!!!

I would suggest that this will make 4x4s more popular, as a way of sticking two fingers up at the PC green loonys (and the global warming nazis).

I hear what you're saying about hot hatches, but insurance costs may be prohibitive.

If people can afford a 4x4 they can afford to pay the hike in the road tax.

I don't think it will make any difference. By the way MOJO why are people morons if they have a family of 4 kids and a dog and they need the biggest car they can get to get around. What an ignorant answer. But, I expect nothing else form you!

I guess I will pay it most people compain about 4x4s but why do they complain who does there landscaping snow plowing or puts in there asphalt driveway Guess they dont think about people needing them for work so as gas prices rise and taxs rise on suv and large trucks the price everyone pays for services.

For any sensible person it is a win-win situation.

We win if the morons who "need" 4x4s to show off, are forced off the roads because they can't afford to run them,

and we win if the morons who "need" 4x4s to show off, carry on running them, and paying more tax into the Treasury.
