My friend said that my 4th cousin and I should get married...I really dont know if she was joking or what but we'd like to know how far back you'd have to be to make it legal/have kids that arent screwed up. Our teacher said we should do this for a small project and show the class tomorrow. Any idea?

I'm sure you could marry him but even a 4th cousin is inbred. Your kids could come out deformed. Do you really want to do that???

Jerry Lee Lewis married his first cousin and I also knew a couple that were first cousins who married. Why would anyone want to marry their cousin? It is legal in some states to marry your 1st cousin. I do think that it is okay to marry your 4th cousin and have healthy children.

Second cousins can marry. there are no deformities of children . Blood tests can make certain of this.

It is illegal to marry a first or second cousin. I believe third cousin is a little close but 4th should be ok genetically.
