My front bumper on my truck is begining to show signs of rust. What's the best way to remove the current rust spots and keep future rust from occuring. I was thinking of knoking off the current rust with a wire brush and coating it with a thin layer of vaseline but I don't know if that'll work.

Follow the 3 step system from KBS Coatings.
Wirebrush off all the loose flakey rust then:
1.) Use Aquaklean to clean off all dirt & road contaminates from the metal. Rinse well.
2.) Use Rustblast to neutralize the rust and coat the metal w/ zinc phosphate film for good paint adhesion. Rinse well & let dry.
3.) Seal with 2 thin covering coats of RustSeal. This paint will seep deep into those clean open metal pores and cure into a rock hard coating that will prevent any entry of moisture & oxygen. Your metal is now permanently sealed.

What your thinking is a temperory fix.. You can wire brush it or sand it and apply a paint called "Tremclad" rust paint
there a fone nr on the can incase its not available in ur area 1-800-stremclad. Its not expensive max $5.00 a spray can and comes in many colors. Another product I have used but I had to wait a few weeks before I was able to paint another color over it. "Hi-build zinc weld -thru" primer/coating. Its used mostly for after welding, but very effective even if you didn't weld anything. It will cost you $15-20 a can. These are Cdn prices

here is a good thing that I use to do back in the day when all cars had chrome bumpers, 1st take some aluminum foil crumple it up into a ball then rub it on the bumper it will take minor rust off the surface then put car polish on it and continue for as long as you own the car not every day just when you wash it good luck

Use an SOS pad, wet the pad and scrub the bumper. use plenty of water. If the pad is no longer sudsy use another. when your done hose it off, dry it and coat it in a good car wax.

Works great on rusty chrome.

I definitely would not use a wire brush.

There is a product called "NAVAL JELLY". Use it on all the chrome parts. Follow directions closely as it is very corrosive.

Afterwards, give it a good coat of wax.

Good Luck
