It's suppose to be about 10-15 pages. I've read about 367 books (okay, 4) about time travel and get most of it. The problem is: I can't write. I have no idea what I should talk about and what I shouldn't. I don't know where I should start, or where I should end. What are some important things, I should definitely write about? What are some things I should just leave out? Should I just go jump off I cliff? I just need help, people, a lot of help. I want to explain how and why everything works, but then my whole essay would be about relativity. Should my whole essay be about relativity?

Your essay is a learning experience. No one expects you to be a Diana Gabaldon or a Ray Bradbury at this stage of the game. Just keep it simple and stay on track.
Time travel stories are fun because you can either go forward or go backward. Pick whichever you wish. You can travel to a favorite period in history if you wish -- you could even be there at Ford's theatre and prevent Abraham Lincoln's assassination - or preven Martin Luther King's death. Would things be different if either of those men had lived? How might they be different? What effect would that have on our world today? On you, personally?
Let your imagination run and just have fun with it. The neat thing about time travel is that if you set it in the future, no one can say you are wrong, because no one knows what the future might bring. If you set it in the past you can delve into the history books and pick a time when you'd like to have lived. Just imagine what it would be like to be a doctor with today's knowledge but living 1,000 years ago! You would be regarded as a wizard.
So have at it, don't jump off a cliff, and leave some of what you know for the next story. You don't have to use it all up in this one assignment.
Good luck to you.

If you believe there is no such thing as time travel, then yes, write about relativity. After all, time is relative. If you were to travel on an airplane from one side of the country to another, your trip would have been shorter than the guy who drove. Therefore, you actually did time travel, relatively.

Look up John Titor. Although he is probably fake, it will give you a perspective, or at least something interesting to include in your paper. I would also suggest talking about black holes, because many scientists believe that they might have an association with time travel. Talk about the speed of light, singularities....

as a cool beginning you could start it with the theme for Star Trek the Next Generation...to boldly go where no one has gone before, search out new civilizations,etc..because that would lighten the mood and then launch into how time travel could be possible and punctuate it with some warp speed or "Scotty Beam Me Up" comments. everybody--even teachers like humor...

No. I would start off describing what a ride would be on a time machine. THen, once you have their attention, I would write more on the subject, as how it works, etc.

You need to specify what grade this is for or if it's even for college. It makes a big difference.
