I would stand at the barre and work on combinations that practice balance in many positions especially ones that include releve. Also, balance in releve passe with arms in first and fifth. If you are taking ballet classes, consider asking the instructor to help you "find your center" so that you can "stay on your leg." Ultimately you have to find it for yourself, but the instructor (if well trained) should be able to show you the correct posture, port de bras, etc. to attain good balance.

I will agree with the post above mine (Dellefuss') except for the advice about shifting your hip upward. You do need to shift your balance, but NEVER by shifting your hips. It is more by simply moving your weight from two legs to one (and returning it gracefully back to two.)

P.S. Balance also depends a lot on the inner ear fluid. If you have allergies or are sick a lot, this is a probable reason that your balance is off.

Shift your hip towards your supporting leg, your weight needs to be moved as you are not standing on two legs. Doing this ensures your weight is carried on that one leg.
Also make sure that the supporting leg is straight, doing pirouettes on a bent leg won't get you any where.
Also make sure that your weight isn't backwards, this pulls your body off centre and can make you fall.
Also make sure that you snatch your foot underneath your body, and that it's not your body moving over your leg.
Spotting can help also.
And turn out both legs.

(apologies for using 'And make sure' so many times.)

well to do this first practice balancing on half pointe w/ pirouette position. when you turn, spot. practice spotting by going in circles on both ur feet. look at an object then as ur body turns, your head stays in the same position, then your head should snap around and you will be looking at the same object. dont do it too fast. let your head lead u.

Pretend like you're a puppet and someones pulling a sting through the top of your head. You lift EVERYTHING. Neck tall, shoulders back, arms rounded, stomach up and butt down. Make sure your posse is at your knee or above. That's all I can think of. And spott!!!

when turning always tighten your stomach, keep your shoulders down, and spot. this helped me alot, also do some sit ups to strengthen your stomach bcause that really is the key to all dance moves. practice just balancing before turning every time.

You have to increase you core strength. To do that the best way is to take pilates classes. One thing that you can do alone and as frequently as you like is to do as many releves as possible. This will strenghten you lover leg muscles.

stand flat foot && raise your leg 2 a pirouette position, keep repeating. once you feel you have succeeded this, try releve. i practice this a lot && my pirouettes have gotten much better. just be sure that you keep you eyes on the spot in which you are comingforth too. good luck!! hope this helped!!

Practice doing it very slowly. This builds strength and balance and control. Do it over and over in slow motion.
