Apparently someone started a war, destroyed the country and now it must be rebuilt. Here in our own country, kids are going hungry, schools are falling apart and unless you have medical insurance, only the wealthy can afford medical care.
It sickens me. I know we're obligated to fix the damage we inflicted (as we should), but we need to take care of what's going on in this country. Think of how the hundreds of billions spent on this war could have benefited America.

We are an established republic. Getting a hospital built in your state is, well, a STATE problem. Call your Governor.
We are trying to establish a free nation with a self governing representative government in the middle east. How many years and how many lives did we give to make the progress they have there? OUR Constitution was ratified 10 years after we declared our independence.
Why don't you cut the Iraqis and our troops a little slack while they BUILD (not re-build) an infrastructure in a country of formerly oppressed and terrorized people. You refer to these as "nice new places"...That's interesting. Know anyone who's been THERE???

No matter how you look at it, people in Iraq are worst off than we are here in the States. They can't walk out the door without thinking "Gee, is a suicide bomber gonna blow me to pieces today?". Our country started that madness (yes, life sucked under Saddam, but at least he kept militias in check and there was STABILITY in the country) so we have to fix it. We should've never sent our boys to Iraq, and we should've spent those countless billions of dollars in helping our own people, who are becoming more and more ignorant, poor, unhealthy, and hopeless.

Agreed. We are the only nation that goes in and actively tries to rebuild nations we defend ourselves against.
It's called "nation-building".
All it has gotten us is grief from people who DON'T understand the political situation there and want to score political points here.
Simple solution: don't do it. Next time, notify an attacking country (whether it's an assassination attempt on one of our President's like Saddam tried, or whatever) that we are going to bomb one of three cities (name them). Give them three weeks to evacuate.
Bomb the city to the ground.
Tell them, "Next time you attack us, we will make it six cities warned, two destroyed. LEAVE US ALONE!"
Save the money for our own people. Our enemies hate capitalism anyway.

Because that is how you assist a country in comming out of the dark ages and beginning anew...Hospitals in the US are mostly private and are profit makers...Not a government function

Hospitals here in the states are private. If there was profit to be made in your area you would have 12 hospitals.
