Think of what you're good at/you know a lot about. Sports? Politics?
Imagine you're your main character, in whatever field you picked - say you picked sports, and now you're a basketball player with a tournament coming up (or something equivalently big). Think of something bad that could happen to you. Now think of a way you could get out of it. Finally, what did you learn from your dilemma?
You NEED to pick a topic you like (or you'll hate it - trust me), but you also need to find something you know about or you'll get frustrated and it'll sound cheesy.
