because americans are too fat and lazy so the government puts crap on that nobody wants to watch hoping they will get up and do something instead of sitting in front of a tv all day.

It involves money. It costs money to hire writers and actors. A reality show uses people no one has heard of and offers a large prize at the end of say 13 weeks. The first 15 minutes of this show has probably earned more than that in advertising revenue. The other reason is in the last 50 years that television has been around, most all jokes and storylines have been used to death.

most shows are cheesy and they've already had so many shows that they cant copy the ideas. tv shows have been around too long so they cant come up with any new good ideas. but you should watch One Tree Hill....the new episodes start next wednesday 8/7c and ive found thats a really good show for me. also have u ever watched House on Tuesdays or maybe Medium on Wednesdays (i think its wednesday) or CSI: Crime Scene Investigation which is on like all the time. They're realyl good shows and keep u watching and interested, although One Tree Hill can get cheesy at times.

personally I think its because the general public has lowered
thier standards for the most part. There are still quite a few
people out there that would like to see better TV shows.

Now-a-days television mainly targets teenagers...hence the reason why we have such horrid television shows.
There are some good shows, just not as many as there used to be. There's still the Discovery Channel, National Geographic, History Channel, Nova....and obviously KCET, wonderful mysteries, melodramas, movies based on books by Mark Twain, Agatha Christie...et cetera.
You just have to look for them.

Because networks are too afraid to loose money in trying something new so they all take the same formula and make basically the same show again and again. Not to mention the shows that may take a little bit more warming up to find their audience they cancel as soon as they find something to replace it.

All the good ideas are already taken. Most shows today rely too much on gimmicks and controversy.

Because people continue to watch the crap they put on there. If people would ignore the tripe they are trying to forcefeed them, then they would have no choice but to program differently.
