What is a transponder on a satellite? How does it work? Can someone explain simply.

A transponder is a receiver and a transmitter. The receiver receives a signal on one frequency and the the transmitter transmits the same signal on a different frequency.

A transponder is a device that is used as a both transmitter and receiver in space station or satellite. It receives signal from the Earth and then send signals back to earth.

A transponder is a receiver,an amplifier and a transmitter.
It intercepts a signal from say earth processes it and transmits it to a predetermined location
Out satellite TV among other things is processed by them.

A transponder is the mechanism that receives a message or signal and returns a message or signal back. In WWII a message could be sent from a ship or plane or whatever and the transponder on another which would respond "friend" and it would thereby not be attacked.

i think its something that helps you locate the location of the transponder. If its on a satellite then we know where the satellite is. It sends signals through radio waves and satellite stuff
