OK, based on the first three answers, some clarification is in order. First, it seems I must define my terms. By socialist, I mean (based loosely on the dictionary definition) someone who believes in government control of the means of production. It seems that many environmentalists are fighting for just that, but in varying degrees
.
lltrix, I share your view as a capitalist who cares about the environment. I also oppose government/corporate cronyism and, moreover, favor the separation (to the greatest extent possible) of government and economics. But you didn’t answer why or why not.

Nancy Kay, ad hominem remarks are not an answer. Also, I never asserted that environmentalism = socialism. The question was whether there was a connection between the two, political, philosophical, or otherwise. Perhaps you should read the question more slowly.

Bruce M, stop and think before spewing venom. I never said either concept was bad or good, so why the witch-burning reference?

Anthonyinkc, I agree with you. But you didn’t answer the question.

Steven H, that answer made no sense. Take the question at face value; don’t put your own preconceived notions into it.

Cardinal Rule, name-calling is the last refuge of the true idiot. If you’re afraid to answer the question, why don’t you just say so?

Archangel, MoltarRock and Anthonyinkc, thanks for putting a little thought into your answers.

Cardinal Rule, thank you for your thoughtful revision. I must admit that my first question was too hastily and, as a consequence, awkwardly written.

But I still don't understand the vitriolic responses to what seemed to me a very innocuous question.

You, sir, are an idiot.

Okay, now that you've revised your question I can see you're not an idiot. But the answer to your question is still no. I, for one, am an environmentalist (though not fervent) but vote libertarian. Maybe I'm just conflicted, but your question said "all", so a single person can break the argument.

Not in an economic sense. I've read somewhere on a 'Green' website that they would like laws in place that make it legal for women to have children only if "they' believe the planet can support more lives. Who the hell are they to decide this?

Sounds quite a lot like China's population controls.

They are religious fanatics as much as anything. They just want to force the religion of environmentalism on us through taxation.

I don't know about you but this environmentalist is not socialist, I'm a capitalist who doesn't believe in corporate capitalism taking over my government.

I know Republicans that are enviromentalists.

There is nothing wrong with having a clean planet, and a pure atmosphere with no major pollution.

That question really makes little sense. It sounds like the rantings of conservative hate radio.
