Hey, anyone know of European Middle Age weapons or torture devices used between the years 500 and 1500? I need a few ideas and websites (it would be good if they had pics, too)....thanks for your help!

Weapons: the sword, crossbows, longbows, battle axes, maces, caltrops (a kind of spiked ball that was used against cavalry, since the horses stepped on them and were lamed--guess you could compare it to a land mine of today, only it didn't explode), pikes, catapults, and boiling pitch or oil (used as defensive weapons in siege warfare).

Instruments of torture: the rack, fire in various forms, thumbscrews, iron maiden (although this usually resulted in the death of the victim), strappado--face it, the human mind can be fiendish when it comes to figuring out new ways to inflict pain!

The long bow was overwhelming in its time.

The stirrup was a major innovation that led to the development of knights in armor.

I believe the guillotine may have been one of them, but that was used for executing people.
