dumb questions but does anyone know how long it takes for the sperm to reach the egg and how soon can someone tell if they're pregnant...

It depends on whether the woman has already ovulated or not. It can take as little as a few minutes and as long as 3 or more days.

A pregnancy test won't show positive until at least 10 days later.
