Life. The term ensures that justices will not be beholden to anyone. They can maintain impartiality.

Judges on the supreme court serve for life. According to Constitution, they serve on terms of "good Behavior" which pretty much means, they serve for life unless they break the law in some way during a trial, etc. Other than that, they serve until they either resign or die.
