What do you think of this teacher?
There were a couple times when she got angry at me cause I've had a hole in my backpack and my parents couldn't afford to give me a new backpack and there were a couple other times when she got angry at me cause my backpack was a mess and everything was disorganized and she likes to give her students lunch detention over the minor things the students do and one time she gave me lunch detention all because I've gotten distracted with my schoolwork and I've done more than I was supposed to be doing.

With respect to the backpack being a mess, it could be that she realizes that if you learn to be neat at a young age, your life will be a lot easier. Therefore, punishing you by making you clean it out would make sense as a way of getting you started on a habit of neatness.
So I could see punishing you for this, even though I wouldn't do it.
Even if you couldn't afford a new backpack, you could mend the hole using some kind of strong thread or dental floss or twine or something so you wouldn't lose things through the hole. I've done that with my own kid's backpack.
I cannot imagine a teacher punishing a kid for doing more schoolwork than was assigned.
just out of curiosity, is this a high school or middle school teacher, or younger?

if stuff fell out of your bag that is bad.
there are ways to motivate people to try to get organized. if it is req that your stuff stays in your folder......... then silent lunch is valid. but a little disorganized in general is every student isnt it gotten distracted with your school work.... like you didnt write the assignment down and know where to stop?
More than you were supposed to be doing? so you ignore a teacher and did something else and or extra work?
i am sorry to hear that it seemed like a teacher was mad because you had a hole in your backpack. either it caused a problem or hopefully they were just frustrated that a bookbag was not a priority

I hope she's no longer teaching. Sounds like she does (or did) NOT like her job (or her students). Most of the teachers I work with would find a new or better backpack for a student in your stiuation. Most of them also realize that kids are not disorganized because the WANT to be disorganized... sometimes it is a problem that takes a long time and a lot of intense help for people to overcome.

She has an obsessive-compulsive personality. Tell your parents to ask her to focus on teaching and not on what your backpack looks like.

She sounds very controlling. Talk to her privately about not being able to afford a new backpack. However, you can keep your back pack neater.

Ask her to show you which school rule you're breaking. When she can't, tell her to contact your parents if she wants you to stay in detention. Then walk away.

Maybe she is just trying to let you all know that she is in charge, and that she will not take any nonsense from any of you.
