Pictus cats get to be about 4" long. I seriously doubt one could handle a 3" fish,. but they will eat small fish if they can catch them.

my 4- lined pictus is 3yrs old he is 8 inches long and 3 inches thick. He resides in a 80 gallon with 3 parrot fish, and a leporinus, and 2 baby albino pangasuis cats. HOw big can they grow, will be somewhat due to how much space they have in a tank being the gallons themselves and the other fish living with him. I have 8 tanks ranging from 125 gallons 55's, my 80 so as some guys get big i can move them into a more spacious tank. IF you want your pictus to reach 10-12 inches you will need to make sure he has 20-25 gallons of water just for him, aside from other fish. FOr every inch of body size give him 2-3 gallons of water at a min. Good luck. Eating other small fish is possible, i used to have giant danios in that tank. :)

YES it's true - it can eat certain fish that can be as large as 3". There are variables involved, but it's certainly possible - the fish most at risk are ones that dwell at the bottom of the tank, and ones that are long and slim (and therefor more appetizing). I remember when I attempted to house Kribensis and Pictus in the same tank, and the pictus made short work of the poor little cichlid - and the pictus was only marginally larger then the Krib.

Pictus catfish will grow to about 5" long and will eat anything they can fit in their mouths! They are not agressive but they are somewhat frenetic feeders so can cause a bit of upset to others in the tank at feeding time.

Pictus like any catfish with outward (not downward) facing whiskers is a night predator. He'll eat anything that fits in his mouth. Generally at night. Of course most fish will eat any fish that fits in their mouth.

definite, they'll eat maximum fish that slot of their mouths. do no longer feed them feeder fish regardless of the undeniable fact that, they many times carry parasites and ailments, whether they do no longer look ill. Frozen bloodworms are a plenty safer source of protein on your Pictus. sturdy success! Nosoop4u

About four inches for adults.

However, yes, they are vicious. Smaller fish like tetras will provide them with nothing but a steady diet for the future until your tank is devoid of smaller fish. Pretty but aggressive.

Hope this helps.

a fish will grow only as big as its environment will allow it. The bigger the tank the bigger the fish.
As for eating smaller fish, that is exactly what big fish do, eat smaller fish. it's the law of the jungle so to speak.
