It's about a girl who is still learning to cope with her father's death. It's about her finding her place in the world--finding out who she is. Not what her parents want her to be. Not what her friends expect her to be. Not what her boyfriend would like her to be...but just to be the person she authentically is. It's a great novel. I recommend anything and everything by Dessen. It's really hard to go wrong there...they're all good.
