Your last sentence--basically--said it all. It makes her happy. While some cultures are more inclined to "feed" people, it's really a very common & gracious thing. Eating together is a warm & friendly "ritual." I've never really given it much thought, but I find myself offering food to electricians, plumbers, whatever. It's a way of sharing, & making people feel welcome in your home. I honestly don't think it's "psychological" in any deep sense. Isn't it great??
Edit: Oh, PLEASE, janne501--look for the negative, & you will find it. Too bad, so sad!

It sounds like she is very much a nurturing, feminine, earth mother type of person. I have a relative who is exactly the same way. He's a gentle, nurturing kind of person.
One of the most basic ways to nurture and show affection is through food. When you are just born, your mother feeds you from the milk that comes from her own body. Classically, food has always been a way for mothers to show affection for their family, or for lovers to show affection for each other. "The way to a man (or woman's) heart is through their stomach."
Anyway, that's just my amature opinion off the top of my head based on what I've read and experienced.

I do that too, if I see a friend of mine I want to make sure they are all fed and watered - particularly if they are an unhealthy sort who live off takeaways and fast food.
Then again I had a bit of a weight problem in my early teens and thought it had something to do with that? If not then it's just a nurturing thing.

Sounds like the happy hostess.
I have that probelm too in a small way. whenever people come to my house, I'm always up, making sure they have drinks or snacks etc. They always comment on it, & i only pick up on it when they point it out.
I guess it's because i used to be a chef... (in my mind, that makes logical sense... it's late & i'm tired)

just means she cares. it may be a generational thing in the UK following rationing. feeding someone is a nurturing caring thing to do. its not weird. unless she forces you to eat when you dont want to.

She's probably a very nurturing person. She should be in a job where she can express this, such as child care, elder care, etc.

My Grandmother used to do that. It was her way of showing her love, by feeding everyone.
