I assume that you mean your personal sales, and not the sales of a business in general?
The number one way to get people to buy from you is to make them invest in you as an expert. If they believe you are sincere and know what you are talking about, they will depend on you.
How do you gain a client's trust?
1. Project an aura of confidence. People are attracted to people who have confidence in their own abilities. You don't have to know everything in your chosen field to be confident, but knowledge is one way to gain confidence. But I find its more of a way of projecting yourself.
2. Genuinely listen to your client and mirror back to them. When Mrs. Jones is telling you about her carpet, listen to what she says and then say it back to her.
3. Determine what your customer really wants. Sometimes this is hard because they don't know, or they don't want to say. You need to ask questions with the intent of finding out what they want from you. NEVER ask closed questions like "Do you need any help?" This can be answered in one word and then you're shut down. Ask an open question like "What brings you in today?" Better yet, don't start with business questions at all--instead mention the lovely day, or the kids that Mrs. Jones brought in, or that you like her sweater. This will put her at ease and make you seem less like a pushy salesman and more like a friend.
4. Don't be afraid to ask for the order. After you have identified the customer's need and told them what you have to offer, give them a close like, "So, how does that sound?" Make them answer you. If they seem unsure, find out why and answer the objection and then close again. "Ok, well I hear you saying that you aren't sure about the brown color. That carpet also comes in green. What do you think of that?"
During the sales process you should be "trial closing", making the customer give you feedback at every opportunity. "That's a great color, don't you think?" and "Wow, I really like how this all goes together, don't you?"
That way, when you are ready to write up the sale the customer has affirmed in their own mind that the product is right for them.
Hope this all helps!!!

advertise. Make people aware of what you are selling. Make sure that there is a demand for what you are selling. Don't sell things that people don't need.
