I like my Dell E1705 17" laptop with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor # T7200 or higher and 2 Gigs of memory.

I would highly recommend Toshiba. I have a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092 with 1GB of memory, Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002 SP2, and wireless internet. It has 3 USB ports, a Firewire port, RJ11 (phone line) and an RJ45 (Ethernet) port, a VGA monitor port, an S-Video port, AC port, security port, headphone/microphone port, SD, xD, and M port, Express Card slot, a memory card slot, a CD/DVD drive, and Harman/Kardon speakers.

Go with HP, and if you want something in-expensive, but good try Acer.
