kenmore is a good brand and 4 years is not very old. id just fill the tub with water from a hose or bucket. you dont have to hook up the hoses. put the water level switch to small load then you wont have to use so much water.

I would think it would be smarter to give it a real test anyway. How about just hooking it up to your garden hose and just select cold water wash? (You may have to cap the hot water side? You'll find out!) The drain hose could be wired to the railing to point away. (Wire it in place so you don't get surprised where it shoots. Copper house wire should suffice.)

This way you can verify the elctric motor as well as pumping action.

I have a 15 year-old Kenmore (or is it 20 now...)... the old girl just keeps banging and bashing out the clean laundry... it will most probably work unless someone has really badly abused it. If it looks in good shape, chances are it will work fine for you. Probably made by Inglis or Whirlpool... good stuff that Sears stuff...

Good Luck!

If you put it to the spin you will hear the motor if in the wash you will only hear a slight hum from the water valve. the motor will not run in the wash cycle until it is full of water..
