give me an arguement as to why?I'm trying to start figuring out what side I want to take, and any information would be great. And please, only intelligent people.I want a well-formed opinion. Not just ,"cos Bush sucks and he's evil cos he goes to war.","I'm a anarchist cos government is wrong.",or "Democrats are little girly men."

As of now,I'm a theoretical anarchist. Think of Ghandi's quote,"Be the change you want to see in this world."I don't have much hope for a revolution or for everyone to let themselves become free in the political or philosophical sense.I think it won't be in our lifetime.I just try to participate as much as I can.

I vote mostly liberal, although I don't agree with half of their ideas.I am for gay marriage, the legalization of prostitution and other vices, and I am against the war in Iraq, though I do believe in war.I just don't see enough reason to go there, whether it has its pros or not.The right wing likes to compare every war to WW2 to perpetuate fear.

Before anyone speculates,I want it to be known that I am patriotic and I love this country.Though I am not nationalistic to the point of closing myself off and always siding with the USA.I am against disrespect of the troops and I think these "conviluted" liberals are spitting at the wrong people.

The best way to pick a political affiliation in this currpted system is to figure out which special interests groups are better aligned with your own interests, because the interest groups are the ones that drive the agenda of the politicians.
I tend to support the agenda of the National Organiztaion for Women, the Congressional Black Caucus, the ACLU, Public Citizen, Environmental Groups, Civil Rights groups, and consumer protection groups, and even Organized Labor.
I tend to oppose the agenda of the Oil, Coal, and Gas Industries, the Drug Companies, the Banking Industry, the Payday Loan Industry, the Tobacco Industry, The factory farming industry, and the Weapons and Aerospace Industry etc...
So I vote Democratic.

Good question.
I'm a conservative Libertarian. Why? I honestly believe the far left is the biggest threat facing America today. But I'm too liberal on some issues (abortion, gay rights, drugs) to be a dedicated Republican.
I'm very conservative on things like social programs. Have *no* problem giving someone help, but our system SUCKS. We should be supplementing the income of low-wage earners, so they *can* make a living, instead of paying people to be leeches off of the rest of us. I believe that a strong military is CRUCIAL to our survival. I believe fully in "walk softly, but carry a big stick" and I think we shouldn't be afraid to beat the crap out of someone with that big stick if need be. I do NOT agree with running our foreign policy decisions past the incompetent idiots at the UN. I DO agree that we need to have the FREEDOM to defend our interests as *we* see fit - not how France or Germany (or anyone else) wants us to.
Did that help?

I am a registered Republican and have been since the day I turned 18 and registered to vote. I remain a republican because for the most part the candidates have reflected my own political, social, moral, and ethical views. Whereas I have not been given compelling evidence or reason to switch to another party or just quit the affiliation. This does not mean that I vote down party lines. I research every person on the ballot and if able confront them with questions I feel are pertinent going into an election. I then choose from the field the person who I feel will best represent my interests while they are in office.
I believe in hard work to achieve my goals/comfy lifestyle, fair taxes, freedom of religion/freedom from religion (if you so choose), right to life (smile, you're reading this so your mother chose life too.) I believe that freedom isn't free and am willing to and have served my country. If all of this is repugnant to someone I guess they have a few issues to deal with, but that is their choice.

I have always thought of myself as an Democrat, because it suited mostly to my views as to what is important in America.
The more that I look at life and how these United States are being taken advantaged of by illegal immigration and Corporations, it makes me sick.
So this is how I have decided to go with the Independents...They seem to not be stigmatized into what the other parties have gotten stuck into. The Laws of these United States come first and foremost. We need to live via the Constitution and not Corporations.

I am a conservative who was mugged by the liberals while I was serving in the military. Liberals can't help themselves. They get a good feeling acting so self righteous.

Libertarian. I'm not a liberal because I don't see bigger government as a solution. I'm not conservative because I don't believe a new world order will make things better.

you might want to pick up a book written by an influential thinker from each of the four political quadrants rather than rely on input from YAnswers.
