While I have seen many people from the political right try to associate electric cars with liberals, this is an entirely nonsensical point of view. Cars are not political - they are technological objects.

We are all affected by the state of our economy, and none of us can afford to ignore important developing technology. Take a look at a modern electric car:

The Phoenix electric pickup truck - using new, advanced Altairnano batteries (based on research from MIT) - can:

-Travel up to 250 miles per charge
-Carry 5 passengers plus cargo at 95mph.
-Charges batteries in as little as TEN MINUTES.
-Has batteries that last 250,000 miles (never need replacement.)

Driving on electricity only costs about a penny per mile, and electric motors are extremely reliable, requiring absolutely no maintenance at all.

I think the Tesla is great! I think we also need to look into bio-fuels, as well. Coal is still used to generate electricity, meaning that the increased usage of electricity would continue to pollute the atmosphere, due to coal emissions.

A bio-diesel engine in a lightweight pickup truck gets 8 miles per gallon more efficiency than a regular diesel engine. In Georgia, the cost of diesel is about $2.75-ish (Please correct me on the price, here, if I'm wrong.), while bio-diesel, which produces no carbon based emissions, only costs $0.40 a gallon. Do the math.

My affiliation? Moderate Independent. Republicans and Democrats, I do not believe, have the decency, nor respect for our money, to kill our oil dependency. Sorry if that hurts anyone's feelings, but, I'm tired of all of the empty promises I've heard for the past 17 years.

Can't even ask a question without reverting to your disdain for Iraq, can you?

Typical Dem...

Anyway, I PERSONALLY have no opinion of electric cars, simply because I don't know what it's like to own one and not enough people can offer some sort of testimony. Sure, they're cleaner for the environment, but do they perform the same as a conventional gas car? How easy are they to maintain? Are they more expensive on the electric bill in the long run than a gas car is on the petroleum bill? Gas cars I'm more comfortable with, simply, because they've been a part of my "natural" world.

Okay - first, you're talking apples and oranges.

Electric cars won't do me a bit of good - I need something that I can haul with. I sure as hell didn't buy an F350 because I like paying to fill the tank!

As to your comment, you are very young, aren't you? Doesn't it piss you off that the military overwhelmingly supports Bush? D'oh! Deal with it, honey - I managed to deal with the Clinton years - you'll survive this.

Where the heck did you get that? I am a Republican and I don't hate electric cars. And I don't see the Dems buying fuel efficient vehicles, carpooling, or conserving gas any more than my fellow Reps.

They hate electric cars because their oil buddies can't make as much of a profit off a non-petro based economy. They are all bought off by the oil corporations and the Saudi royal family and interests in that country.

Take your generalizations and rhetoric and go somewhere else.

We don't hate electric cars. What's going on over there is far bigger than electric cars, I'll tell you that.
