It depends on what you prefer.
1st, ceramic pads create less dust when applied and are composed of a hard material similar to metalic brakes plus are also quieter.
2nd, metallic pads come in 2 different forms, full metallic and semi-metallic.
Full metallic pads are just that... all metal.
Semi-metallic are a combination of an organic and metallic materials.
Both last for a long time but will give you a ear ache every once in a while and drive you crazy the rest of it.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Here's an alternative. If you want your brake rotors to last forever organic pads are best. EBC Green Stuff pads. are cleaner and have slightly better stopping power than ceramics. Metallic pads grind rotors to death. It's a metal on metal condition. Ceramics are better in that respect.
New Toyota pads are organic from the factory. I've personally seen 70-80,000 mile pad wear on the standard Toyota pads.
There are several organic pad manufactures out there. Another welcome plus is that they are quiet.
If new rotors are necessary go with any American or Canadian product. Wagner, AC Delco or EBC plain or slotted discs. All EBC products are manufactured in England. There available everywhere in the USA.

depends on your braking habit. If you tend to drive like F1 driver and brake like them then ceramic. But if you drive like normal people then metallic. Ceramic has higher heat tolarence than metallic. So under constant hard breaking, they tend to do better. But it has to reach a certain temperature to perform at it's peak. Also ceramic break pad should be lot more expensive then metallic since ceramic is still somewhat exotic material. For casual driving, metallic should be okay.

metallic as they will clean your wheel discs all of the time giving you a clean surface where as ceramic discs cause grooves which does not help when you replace pads in the future.
