I think we need to work more on freedom here at home before worrying about places like Iraq. What's the point of what we're trying to do there if we end up not having a real democracy of the people here at home??

You aren't making a lot of sense?
If you haven't noticed, our freedoms are being taken away by things like the Patriot Act and the Military Commissions Act of 2006!
Iraq doesn't have their freedom because we are there.
Iraq should be free to pick their own government, not one forced down their throat by the US as we don't really care if they are free or not! That's another cop-out! Just look at Iran, the CIA helped overthrow a constitutionally elected government to put Pro US Oil Shah of Iran in power. We did the same with Castro, we did the same with Saddam and we supported and gave money and weapons to Osama bin Laden!
Iraq will never be a Democracy, as there is no true Democracy that I know of in the world. We aren't. We are a Representative Republic, the exact same thing Iraq was before we helped Saddam take over the Iraqi government!
We didn't seem to care much in Vietnam when we evacuated, leaving millions of South Vietnamese to be execute by the Communist North, becoming part of a communist state!
Iraq is in a civil war, and how it turns out is going to be up to them, not us. Right now we are just trying to hold a lid of the explosion that is going to occur. We cannot win this war with just the military!!
"Military alone can't solve Iraq problems
March 8: America's new top general in Iraq says there's no pure military solution to the war, and solving Iraq's problems will mean negotiating with insurgents to find political solutions. NBC's Richard Engel reports. You can see more of our indepth interview with Gen. David Petraeus on Friday's broadcast."
Nightly News NBC
If we leave Iraq, Iraq will have another government. It may not be what we want, but it is going to be who wins the civil war. We are the ones that set that up!

Wow, you sure did stir up a nest of liberals with THIS question. And the fact that you asked them to THINK really got to them didn't it? They're not used to that.
Iraq most certainly deserves their freedom. To the liberal that stated that the Iraqis didn't "ask" for it. I ask him...."Were you waiting for the raped mother of the mutilated child to personally call you on your cell OR WHAT?" SHEESH.
Countries shouldn't have to ASK America to come to their aid. When New Orleans was hit by Katrina did America call every single country and say "Excuse me, but one of our cities has just been annihilated and we could really use assistance." NO!!! Countries came to America's aid WITHOUT being asked. (Most did anyways...I won't even GO THERE.)
Is this any different from hitler and the Jews. In my opinion. No. Hitler was a demonistic man who had NO value for life. He wanted a people that would serve HIM and HIM ALONE. The Jews did not fit his "list of requirements". Therefore he eliminated them.
Saddam also was a demonistic man who had NO value for life. He too wanted a people that would serve HIM and HIM ALONE. I have no hesitation in saying that AMERICA was on his hitlist eventually. Thank God we got to him before he could get to us!
My prayers are with the American troops in the middle east, but they are also with the Iraqi civilians......the mothers, the fathers, the children who just want the freedom to sleep at night without fear.

What does Hitler have to do with anything? This is as irrational a statement as I have ever had the misfortune to read. They don't have freedom now because too many people, both from inside & outside Iraq don't want the majority of Iraqis to have freedom.

Well, that would depend on your defintion of freedom. If you mean american style democracy; our style of democracy doesn't necessarily fit with Islamic culture ( separation of church and state) Religion is an integral part of thier culture.
Secondly, they (Iraq) would have to want thier freedom in order for it to have a chance. I don't recall them asking for freedom.
Our democracy (freedom) although imperfect worked for two reasons: One, our founding fathers wanted this style of democracy, and secondly, if it failed they would have been screwed. Okay so a little help from frace helped too.
This is different from hitler and the jews, because hitler blamed the jews for all of Germany's problems and wanted to exterminate all jews. I don't feel this situation between the US and Iraq is remotely similar.

Iraqis can be 'let loose' after Bush leaves office and taken to a secured location for the rest of his life. Our brave Troops are in Iraq 'holding' them back from going after Bush for tearing their country apart just because Sadaam 'almost' killed his daddy and made a foot rug out of Bush Sr. face.
It's a shame that our brave heroic soldiers are dying on a battlefield created from personal dislikes. Those Troops, those brave souls would be alive today only if we had a president that thought about the actions and value of others. He can't find Bin Loden nor does he wants to. He already knows the Iraqis don't hate Americans or America, they hate Bush and since he's at the helm it would seem their hatred is extended to Americans.
And the hanging of Sadaam was disgusting and wrong. If Leaders of countries are to be killed for the murder of their own people we shouldn't have one leader alive today going back centuries. Look at slavery! Throwing babies and women overboard then bring the remaining slaves to America to be hung, rapped, beaten, tortured and SOLD in support of the great United States of America.
I tell you... Iraqis sees themselves as the new American Slave and they want no part of it and they are in their right to want freedom in their own country and our Troops deserve to fight a fight that is worthy of a fight, not to create a police state for innocent women and children... or those that are still remaining... Bush killed THOUSANDS of innocent people just to get to Sadaam. 3 million lives for 1 personal fight.
What's wrong with THAT picture!?

They should have the freedom to govern themselves - without America coming in with our guns and democracy. Why should American soldiers die trying to push our beliefs on everybody else? We're not invading China or Russia and THEY believe differently.... makes you wonder why we're really over there. It's not for democracy's sake and it's not for the American people.

It would appear you are asking a question of individuals and you are assuming 'we' oppose Iraq being independent....that's some BIGGGGG assumptive step if you ask me!
Do you watch the news or read anything else here?

We're TRYING to give them freedom, but they think we're trying to conquer them.
And only ask one question on the same subject at a time, unless you enjoy looking like you're just mindlessly ranting instead of trying to express a coherent idea.
