say you plan a trip and you are going to drive from florida to new york and you have figured it will take you three days because you have made plans to stop and see relatives along the way or what ever the reason maybe, when you stop that first night to rest, then the distance you have drove for that day is consider a leg so your first day of driving would be your first leg. and another example would be if you are flying from st. louis to los angles but you have two stops before you get their say one in denver and another in las vegas, well if your first stop is denver, then from st. louis to denver would be consider the first leg of the trip, i hope this helps you out

The first leg of a trip is the start of it. It's a reference to taking the first step, you have to put your leg forward to go anywhere thus we get, "First leg."

The first leg is from when you start until the first time you change directions. The second leg starts the first time you change directions and ends the second time you change.
