The key is this: gold-digger.
If you don't marry a gold-digger you will never find yourself in that situation. Mr. M says that you should never marry or even consider any woman who is not in the same socioeconomic level as you. Beauty w/o money = not the chic for you.
That, my friend, is the formula to remember.
Mr. M on "half."

Half of "your" stuff? You were married...the "stuff" belongs to both of you.
Both parties contribute to the home and the marriage, so it's right that each gets 1/2 when the divorce is done.

Basically, a person would have to be a total idiot NOT to know what divorce entails as regards property and settlements.
It's the law. Their entitled to a settlement. Get over it.

In my mom's situation, custody of us was pretty much all she got. My dad got both vehicles, half of the equity in the house, all of his stuff, and half of her pension when she retires, eventhough he works and can support himself and his wife.
We struggled for a very long time. My mom just wanted fairness in the situation. She didn't want anything that was his or a good majority of things that he gave her. She wasn't out to take him for all he was worth, though he threatened if she divorced him, that he would take her for all she was worth. The situation you mentioned goes both ways.
They were married for over 15 years. I think they were both entitled to certain things but my mom definately got taken, but it got the better of my dad in the end because he ended up declaring bankruptcy and my mom worked hard to restore her credit
I love them both very much, but I told my dad years later after deciding to have a relationship with him again, that he caused us to struggles because of his hatred for her. He ended up hurting us more than hurting her

Men are dumb asses, they just need to have a written agreement , signed an notarized and problem solved its not like they are ignorant when they get married and not know what they are getting into.
They should pay compensation just for being a dumb ***.

No, the reason why women get half is for putting up with his bullsh!t all these years. Picking up after him, cleaning, cooking, laundry, shopping. So in a sense she is his maid. So yes she deserves compensation. Not for the sex
