Those people that are saying Worthing is for old people probably live in Manchester or Nottingham and saw Worthing on TV once and think they know everything about the place.

I have lived in Sussex all my life (I'm nearly 65) and lived in Worthing for a few years.

If you like to be by the seaside Worthing or Eastbourne are the ideal places. As I'm sure you know, Brighton is where it is all 'happening'. It really has become THE best seaside resort in the UK - perhaps even in Europe - but this has made housing very expensive.

Worthing is just 12 miles and Eastbourne 25 miles away. Both of these towns are not so much for the elderly but more for families. They are well kept, clean towns and it doesn't take long to get into Brighton.

I myself now live in Peacehaven which is between Brighton & Eastbourne so I have the best of both worlds. When we first moved here 11 years ago our friends said "You don't want to move there - nothing ever happens there," and I told them, "Yes, that's why were moving there!" Who wants to live near pubs, clubs, bingo halls etc. If I want those I can hop in my car and be in the middle of it all in 15 minutes - yet housing here is 50% cheaper than in town.

I don't live in Worthing, but I have friends that do and so visit regularly. I absolutely love Worthing. You have a combination of good bars and clubs, good shopping area that is not too busy, some lovely little cafes and restaurants and of course the beach. It is close to Brighton if you want a more manic night out and close to London if you need to commute etc. The only downside that I can really think of is that there is quite a large number of youths that cause trouble but then where isn't that a problem. Oh and don't sit outside at the cafe's as you will get shat on by a seagull!! I think Worthing is a lovely place to live. My friends moved there from London 5 years ago and have not looked back. Also they have 3 children and the schools are good. They think it is a really nice place to bring children up. Go for it.

I have a friend who lives in Worthing and there seems to be a high proportion of elderly people who have retired to the coast. Having said that Brighton nightlife and restaurants are supposed to be varied and plentiful, and only about 12 miles away.
