When use of the contraceptive pill saturated US society during the years 1960 through 1980, there was an increase in the US divorce rate that followed the increase in pill use with remarkable conformity. Various social scientists have concluded that this is no coincidence.

Here is some scholarly information. It seems to be very thoroughly researched. On this page you can download a pdf file. It is the script for a talk called: Contraception, Why Not

I think there is a direct correlation between the two. Once a woman is on the pill, she can feel more free to have sex, without worries. The person she has sex with is more likely to want to have sex with her, because she won't get pregnant.Unfortunately, sometimes, for whatever reason, she has sex with someone other than her husband.. Once infidelity happens, and the mate finds out, divorce occurs. So, the divorce rate WOULD go up!

I don't think there's a correlation between the 2. Yeah, birth control pills did give women the abilty to have sex w/o getting pregnant, but that's not going to stop someone from having affairs.

it's saying we're living in a society where people more or less want to be intimate without the need for commitment, simple at best.
Divorces will increase to nearly 80% from what I see. People will not see the need to be married if they love each other, they will just live together without all the his and her garbage. You'll see im right, give it time.

According to that graph, WWI and WWII also caused spikes in the divorce rate. Thus, War is a major cause of divorce!

Think how upset the not-so-trusting husband is when his wife turns up pregnant and she was supposed to be taking birth control! THOSE fights can lead to divorce!

I don't believe there is any correlation between the two.
How about the rise of feminism and divorce. There is definitely something between those two.

people don't have to "stay together for the kids" as much. Or maybe they realize they drive each other up the wall befoire they have the kids.
