In a word - none.

They'll all do you head in with their beaurocracies. People who work for conservation organisations are affectionately (or condescendingly, depending on your point of view!) known as "greenocrats".

Get out there and do it for yourself. If you're real about conservation, you'll be wanting to hook up with an on-the-ground activist organisation. If you're in the US, I'd suggest that you get in touch with Earth First! as they're at the cutting edge of forest activism in the US. If you're somewhere else, I'd be happy to help you find a good green organisation.

There's one other thing - and that's the issue of getting a wage from an organisation which has 'devoted' itself to conservation. Most of them rely on public funding; usually in the form of donations. This creates a problem in that MOST of their funds are consumed by employees and little is left to fight the good fight.

I got bitten by the "green" bug some 20 years ago and never worked for an organisation. I spent most of the time working as a volunteer activist in the forests...which was incredibly rewarding.

I only left the activism side of things to form a 'green' tourism company - taking people into the forests which we'd been trying to save. Had to leave that behind because a bunch of greedy so-and-so's took it over and I didn't have the energy to bother with trying to wrest control back. I reckon I'll do it again at some stage because it is an amazingly effective tool / way / vehicle for getting significant areas of forest put aside for their values, the least of which is their potential as a place for tourists to "find" themselves. It's also a really good selling point!

Like I said, please feel free to contact me if you need any more info!

Love and Light,
