Why is the news so infatuated with stories like these? We hear about them for days until they are resolved, or until another news story like this crops up. Is it the thrill of life or death in the balance? Or maybe just news used for conversation at work? Why does the media cling to these type of stories? I want to know if these stories capture your interest.

Because these type stories and news tug at the heart strings and emotions of the majority... and that results in more sales and subscriptions of newspapers.

I'd rather hear stories about lost boy scouts or coal miners then Anna Nicole Smith & Angelina Jolie's new baby she adopted...that gets old very quickly. I think people like the other stories b/c they are more interesting & they are an "average Joe", rather than Britney Spears in rehab...who cares!

the media likes to tell warm happy-ending or traumatic stories that the general public is interested in as opposed to what's really going on in the world.

we are war in iraq, but all i ever see is anna nicole this and anna nicole that . . .

people have become so attached from the rest of the world -- its sad really -- the news channels compete for viewers

The media provides the public that which it wants, if there were no viewership ratings and no advertising and consumers profits there would be little of this type of stories.
