It depends on what you are looking for.
I think Tennessee has a little of everything to offer. I have been to many states and always end up going to the Gatlinburg area every year.

During the Christmas season the entire city is lite up, snow falls on the mountain sides, creek run through some of the hotels and their are hundreds of cabin secluded in the woods but close enough for the luxuries.

During the Spring and Summer time I enjoy visiting Dollywood theme park which is fairly cheap and very entertaining. www.dollywood.com There is also a large splash water park next door. There are dinosaur museums, fishing, hunting, a national park nearby, Ripley Beleive it or not musuems and many many dinner shows for all ages. (I.e. Dixie Stampede, Black Jamboree, Magin Shows and Comedy Barn just to name a few.)

During the Fall, the entire city is filled with Pumpkins and Scarecrows along the roadside. It is a very clean place and the view from Look out point is amazing. You can see into several states at that mountain top. It is a great time to ride the incline railroad and play putt putt golf.

I guess this works for me because it has the fun for my child, romantic getaways for me and my husband and more serious nature events that keep my husband's interest too.

just a quick note on a hotel I would suggest for price and comfort. The Sidney James Mountain Lodge has rates about 59.00 - 69.00 per night and often has online coupons for buy one get one rates. A creek runs right outside your balcony and you can smell the fresh pancakes being cooked in walking distance to the local eateries. There is also a heated indoor pool with a bears cave, kiddie pool, outside pool, sauna and jacuzzi. www.sidneyjames.com has a wonderful webcam you can view it.

I think every state has something special that is good about it. No state is all bad. But I'd have to say my least favorite is North Dakota.

I have never been to them all. I have been to about 27. Until I have been to all of them, I cannot make an informed decision.
