my 86' bronco has a striaght six, and i looking to put a bigger engine in it, and I'm wondering a friend of mine has a '75 bronco engine, which is a 302 what im wondering is would that old engine fit and work in my truck, and what type of transmission do i need to buy, do i need to buy a '75 transmission to go with it would it matter....and what things would i need to do differently if i need to at all, in order to install it? or can i install it normally like any other engine.

This is actually a fairly easy swap. The 300 (4.9L) has the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the Windsor V8s (289, 302, 351W), so your current transmission should be just fine. You did not specify what type of transmission, but I don't foresee there being any problem.

You will need new motor mounts specific to your bronco, but they shouldn't be too hard to find as many of those broncos came with either the 302 or 351W. You will also need a new exhaust system, and may need different exhaust manifolds because I am not sure if the early 'small' Bronco's manifolds will fit your 'big' Bronco. You may also need a different oil pan and pickup tube, but I am not 100% sure about that. You may also want to upgrade the radiator as well to one that is made for a 302 equipped '86 Bronco.

it will fit fine u will need a v8 transmision and bell housing otherwise it should go right in
