I recently took a test to find out whether I was a left brained person or a right brainer. I was frustrated to find that it was a dead tie!

Maybe 5% of the population use their right brain as the dominate side. It has nothing to do with being left or right handed. These people are usually extremely strange and antisocial.

The majority of the population is left brain dominate.

I think one of paradox's answer is probably the best, if it is true. But I needed to add dominant hand usage has nothing to do with which side of the brain you use. Your right hand may be controlled by your left brain, but that doesn’t mean if you are right handed you are left brained. I’m not sure where so many got that, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone claim that was the case. But, it is a mistake.

Those tests about which hemisphere you use a probably pretty worthless, the reason you got an even score is while of the questions are measuring traits someone with a certain right or left preference would have, other are measuring their own stupid bias. Also, obviously, as other people say, you use your hole brain. There is some evidence, as I understand, people wind up using one side of the brain more than the other for some reason, that is true. But, most of the rest of the traits left-right brain use characteristics aren’t coming from psychiatrists or neuroscientists, they are coming from sketchy psychologists and their unscientific surveys. You might as well but fortune cookies to learn about yourself if you are going to be believing what those tests tell you.

This is a good one! Interestingly enough, the left-brained, right-brained preference test isn't actually measuring what side of your brain you use the most. It's merely indicating your aptitude bias - what you are naturally more inclined to do. The test assumes that because left brain is typically logic, and right brained typically artistic...your aptitude indicates which side you use more. The fact is, everything you do is done with both sides of the brain working together. If you watch an EKG of someone doing art, reading, math...there is activity on both sides.

Most everyone knows that we only use about 10% of our brains, and that the right side of the body is controlled by the left side of the brain, and visa versa. Here are some other tidbits I've learned that show just how capable the brain is at rewiring itself as needed, and how "sides" don't matter:

- Severe epileptics can opt to have their brains split in two (the brain is joined at the cerebellum), to stop "full brain seizures" and regain their lives. When this happens, each side of the brain rewires itself to a degree to help relearn what is necessary to function
- There is a procedure where one half of the brain is removed completely. Provided the patient is young enough, the brain can rewire the remaining hemisphere to do everything that the whole brain used to - with no drop in intelligence or ability
- In near-concious patients (not quite in a coma, but not responsive either) the brain has been known to rewire itself to allow conciousness (rare, but happens)

No one knows how the brain rewires.

I'm rambling a bit, but my point is that you can't really state which side of the brain you use with any certainty, unless you where an EKG around for a long time and analyze the results. Not fun considering that this involves having electrodes implanted in your scalp (or even your skull) and you can't wash your hair, or get your head wet...my sister is an epileptic and she hated it when she had to wear those.

Now, if you're really wondering - based on the fact you asked the question, and desparately want an answer, I'm going to say you need things well defined which is a bias to logic - I think that makes you a left brainer.

(Of course, last laugh will be yours if if you're artistic and think you're right brained!!)

Most people say whatever hand you write with, the OPPOSITE side of the brain is used more. Hence the saying only left handed people are in their right mind.

The side that is mostly used it the left brain, although it depends some on if your left or right handed. Left handed people use their right brain more, and vice versa.

to determine most frequently stimulated side of your brain, try this simple maneuver... overlap your hands so there is an opening between your thumbs and tips of your fingers... hold your arms at there length, and look through the 'hole', the eye that is your dominant eye will see one view, and the other eye will see something else.
the dominant eye is your dominant stimulated brain-side..

easy...huh..?

lol don't worry, I don't think that's a bad thing. I took Psy. but can't remember the whole brain thing. But using both is good, it's like having an unbiased brain.

different sides of the brain store different things so it just means you have equal amouts of thing stored in each side

If I recall correctly: If you are right handed, you use the left side of your brain.

Vice versa if your left handed.
